ITIC meets with Ukrainian Ambassador during Perth visit

CCIWA’s International Trade and Investment Centre team met with Ukraine Ambassador to Australia Vasyl Myroshnchenko in September to discuss potential trade and investment opportunities between Ukraine and WA.

)l-r)Ukraine Ambassador to Australia Vasyl Myroshnchenko and ITIC’s Michael Carter.

As Ukraine looks to the reconstruction and rebuild phase, the meeting looked to how WA can play a supportive role across trade and investment in areas such as green energy security, food security and mining and METS.

Michael Carter, head of ITIC, said Ukraine was a similar country to Australia for trade with exports including good, iron ore, wheat and sunflowers. Other commodities include barley, animal feeds, steal products, magnesium, steal, lithium and graphite.

Carter said Ukraine was also in the field of renewable energy (located in the south), as well as oil, gas, and hydrogen.

“The Ambassador is in dialogue with several mining giants regarding trade and investment, and is very interested in Australian mining companies to come invest in exploration,” he said.

“Ukraine wants to come out of this war to be better and establish strong trade relationships with other countries around the world, including Australia.”

Carter said Ukraine imports premium organic lamb from New Zealand, and there was possibly import opportunity for other premium foodstuffs.

He said while the EU was now requiring ‘green steal’, currently Ukraine was exempt from this.
