CCIWA Board President
Nicolle Jenkins
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA (CCIWA) celebrates the life of Harold Clough AO, OBE and expresses heartfelt condolences to his family following news of his passing.
Harold Clough was a passionate advocate for the business community and a luminary of the Australian Chamber movement. Originally a President of the Confederation of WA Industry, he subsequently served as President of CCIWA and of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Few in the 130 year history of CCIWA have made a greater contribution. A life member, he believed deeply in the value of membership of our organisation. Mr Clough fought for an open, internationally competitive economy and, throughout his career, pushed hard against protectionist agendas and regulatory overreach. He also made significant investments in forging closer cooperation between industry and the research sector, especially the University of Western Australia. He has been part of a select group of WA owner-entrepreneurs who have delivered extraordinary wealth and prosperity to our State.
Harold Clough oversaw the growth of one of Western Australia’s most successful and iconic businesses, Clough Limited. Clough Ltd has played a pivotal role in Western Australia’s history, building Perth’s first high-rise building, and constructing the Narrows Bridge, amongst many other significant works.
Mr Clough was awarded Order of Australia honours for services to business and industry.
CCIWA thanks Harold Clough for everything he gave for the business community, and in so doing helped to shape this great state and our nation
