CCIWA to launch new Wanneroo training hub

CCIWA will run a new training hub in WA, to provide local employment opportunities for young people north of Perth.

The Federal Government on Wednesday (August 18) awarded CCIWA the contract for the Wanneroo training hub, which will be located at Yanchep co-working space YHub.

The Wanneroo facility is one of 10 hubs being trialled across Australia as part of a $50.6 million Federal Government program to improve opportunities for Year 11 and 12 students in regions with high unemployment.

It follows the launch of the Armadale Training Hub last month, also to be run by CCIWA.

CCIWA Industry Skills Manager Lena Constantine said the training hub would help connect young people to employment opportunities stemming from development in the area.

“The Wanneroo region and the north-west corridor is one of the fastest growing areas in WA,” she said.

“It’s going to be important that local youth are aware of the employment opportunities this investment is, and will continue, to bring to the region, to ensure they are aligning their skill development with local industry needs.”

She added that the hub would help businesses outside of metropolitan Perth gain access to skilled workforce they needed to thrive, benefit local students and the community, and ensure the newly developed corridor is a social and economic success.

Federal Industry Science and Technology Minister Christian Porter said the Wanneroo training hub would act as a bridge between local schools and industry.

“By helping to meet the needs of local industries, we are also ensuring our young people have a better chance of getting into well paid and rewarding careers.”

CCIWA Career Facilitator Megan Strong will manage the training hub, helping to create better links between schools and local industry.

The Wanneroo Industry Training Hub is expected to open in late September, 2021.
