The Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA (CCIWA) welcomes reports that the State Government will allow critical health workers, including more than 200 junior doctors and nurses, from overseas to help fill shortfalls in WA.
CCIWA has been consistently emphasising that WA’s skills shortages cannot be resolved without access to overseas workers.
This is a critical initiative from the State Government to address the chronic issues posed by WA’s shortage of skills and workers.
Skills and worker shortages are damaging 5 out of 6 WA businesses, representing the biggest drag on growth in our economy.
The State Government should build on this initiative and seek to attract overseas workers to address the shortages that apply right across the economy. Not only can skilled migrants address these challenges, they also hold the key to growing and diversifying our economy.
We urge the State Government to apply this approach to other hard-hit industries.
