Twenty years of helping WA apprentices

Apprenticeship Support Australia has signed up almost 256,000 people into apprenticeships and traineeships across WA and is this year marking its milestone 20-year anniversary.

While it’s already worked with more than 94,000 different employers, ASA hopes more businesses jump on board the free scheme.

ASA (formerly Apprenticeship Solutions) has distributed almost $4.1 billion of Federal Government employer incentives to help train apprentices and trainees.

From the Christmas and Cocos (Keeling) Islands of WA’s north-west coast to Esperance in the Great Southern, Apprenticeship Support Australia has WA’s apprentices covered.

Industry training consultants and mentors are spread across 14 WA regional and metropolitan locations, some travelling thousands of miles in a week to visit apprentices or sign-up new ones.

“It’s such a valuable tool for employers who often find the task of recruiting the right apprentice daunting,” ASA’s WA Manager Lena Constantine says.

“When we step in, we take the worry out of the situation and we also continue to mentor and assist apprentices and trainees to ensure that their careers start well and continue to grow.”

Owned and operated by the Australian Chamber Network, the WA arm of ASA is powered by CCI.

State Government names finalists

Roy Hill, Gino’s Panel and Paint and Mandurah Taxis have been named as finalists in ASA sponsored WA Employer of the Year category of the WA Training Awards.

“Creating training opportunities for Western Australians is key to ensuring we are well placed as the State’s economy grows and diversifies,” Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery said.

“The WA Training Awards encourage continuous improvement, innovation and excellence in a sector that is critical to building the state’s capacity.

“Highlighting the achievements of those in the training industry, and investing in training, will encourage others to also be involved.

“Our finalists have continued to invest in training and it is fitting that we recognise their commitment.”

Winners will be announced in September. Winners may also be eligible to compete against the nation’s best at the Australian Training Awards later in the year.
