Australians who suffer injury or loss of income because of adverse effects from the COVID-19 vaccination will be able to claim for their losses under a Federal Government scheme.
Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt has announced the no-fault COVID-19 Vaccine Claim Scheme, which gives Australians quick access to compensation for claims related to the administration of the COVID-19 vaccine.
“Side effects, or adverse events, from COVID-19 vaccinations can occur, but most are mild and last no longer than a couple of days,” Minister Hunt said.

“Serious and life-threatening side effects are very rare, but it is important that we provide a safety net to support those affected.”
The scheme will cover the costs of injuries above $5000 to a proven adverse reaction from the vaccine.
The Therapeutic Goods Administration will provide guidance on recognised adverse reactions, on advice from vaccine recipients’ doctors.
Compensation under the scheme will be available from September 6 and claims can be backdated to February 2021.
CCIWA is hosting a webinar on COVID-19 vaccinations in the workplace on September 8.
