Businesses urged to support fight against domestic violence

Businesses have been encouraged to show support in the fight to stop violence against women by hosting an event on White Ribbon Day on November 18.

With the theme ‘Let’s be the change’, White Ribbon Australia is this year urging Australians to come together and start a conversation about practical solutions to end men’s violence against women and children in our communities.

“Let’s Be the Change and do what we can to contribute to a nation free of all forms of gendered violence, harassment, abuse and disrespect,” White Ribbon Australia National Director Allan Ball said.

“With your help, we are one step closer to achieving this mission.”

Last year, Australians organised more than 200 events and this year, White Ribbon Australia aims to double that at least.

“The money raised will make a difference in the communities where you live, work and play,” Ball said.

To get involved, businesses can host an event to start a collective call to action, which can begin by wearing a ribbon and seeking out educational conversations on the issue.

“Your fundraising efforts help create the change we need in our communities,” Ball said. “This support helps drive our primary prevention work to end men’s violence before it begins, through education, workplace accreditation, advocacy, partnerships and community-led action plans.”

This year, CCIWA will host a high tea for staff on White Ribbon Day, with keynote presentations from White Ribbon Australia CEO Melissa Perry and CCIWA charity partner Zonta House Refuge Association CEO Kelda Oppermann.

Businesses can find more information and register their event at the website link here. They can also upskill about violence prevention at the Digital Barber Shop here.

Separately, businesses can seek out the Workplace Accreditation Program, which engages a whole of organisation commitment to eliminating men’s violence against women.

“Ending men’s violence against women can sometimes feel like an impossible goal,” Ball said. “But we can do it together, community by community, workplace by workplace.”

He added: “Our team is here to support you in your fundraising journey, so please don’t hesitate to email [email protected] should you need any further support.”
